For its introductory year, this radically different sports car with an all fiberglass body was produced in a temporary GM facility in Flint, Michigan. All 300 1953 Corvettes were equiped with Polo White exterior paint, red vinyl interior, black soft top, and red wheels. Powered by the 150 hp Blue Flame Six engine backed up by a Powerglide transmission, performance was less than startling, but at a total production run of only 300 units, the 1953 is still the rarest of all model year Corvettes. Only about 225 of the 300 1953 Corvettes exist today. The oldest being the #003 Corvette which recently sold at the Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction in 2006 for $1 million.
