When Z06's Attack: Katech Boosts Super Corvette to 600-hp

When the Z06 is simply not enough, it's comforting to know that you can always turn to outfits like Katech Performance for more tire shredding madness.

Katech, a high performance engine developer that works extensively with numerous factory racing efforts including the Corvette C6R program, enlisted the services of legendary endurance racer Dick Barbour to help massage the C6 Z06's already formidable LS7 7.0-liter V-8 block to more than 600 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque.

Called quite appropriately the 'Street Attack,' Katech has made several modifications to the base engine to get it up into the stratospheric 600-plus range, without using forced induction. Forged 11:1 pistons, solid bushed titanium connecting rods, upgraded camshaft, and ported cylinder heads are just a few of the extensive modifications made to the block.

The base Z06 transmission was also modified with high-performance clutch and an RPM Transmission Stage IV T56 upgrade. Among the other enhancements are a Ron Davis custom aluminum radiator with integrated oil cooler, a high flow air filter and a CORSA stainless steel performance exhaust system. And best of all, it's all street legal, so you can dust off all comers at your local street light.

According to Katech VP Caleb Newman, the company has even more planned for the LS7 in the near futrue, we'll let you know as soon as they make a formal announcement. C6 Z06 owners looking for more information can call 866-KATECH1 or visit Katech Performance online at www.katechengines.com. We know we'd be on the horn with Katech if we had a Z06.
