Corvette Callaway C16 Going Topless

Callaway will be showing its latest model, a drop-top version of its C16 Coupe, at the 2007 New York Auto Show this April. The convertible will feature the same engine options as the coupe, meaning either 560 or 616 horsepower will be available from the supercharged 6.0-liter V-8 mill depending on which state of tune the buyer selects. Transmission options also remain the same, namely a manual six-speed box (optionally available with the Z51 performance ratios) or a six-speed paddle-shift semi-automatic.

Callaway claims a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds for the C16 Convertible (we imagine that time was taken with the more powerful engine and manual tranny with performance ratios). Top speed is estimated at just over 200 mph, which was likely a motivating factor for Callaway to use a specially-designed Stoptech brake system with 6-piston calipers and 355 mm rotors.

For 'Vette enthusiasts that pine for a Z06 convertible, this is likely the closest thing available in the foreseeable future. A fully loaded C16 Convertible is priced at an eye-popping $128,765, and will be available through Callaway's dealer network. Individual C16 parts may be ordered for installation on previously purchased Corvettes.

Stay tuned to MotorTrend.com for more on the C16 Convertible and all the rest of the New York show world debuts as they happen, April 4-5.
